This Project, jointly funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Economic Planning Unit (EPU), has been commissioned to the Socio-Economic and Environmental Research Institute (SERI) and PE Research Sdn Bhd (PE).


The Objectives of the Project are as follows:
(a) To establish a workable and functioning SWM institutional structure in Penang      that can be replicated by other States in Malaysia.
(b) To establish a structured and institutionalised SWM model in Penang.
(c) To identify alternatives to mass collection and disposal through a qualitative     research method.
(d) To exude capacity building and knowledge management on the processes of      creating and establishing an integrated sustainable waste management model      based on the Penang experience.
